If you elect to rent a boat while you are visiting the area, you must make sure to stop and visit Crab Island! Crab Island is an adventure like no other. Located on the Bay side of the Destin Bridge this famous underwater island is where locals and visitors anchor to spend the day and enjoy their family, friends, and the beautiful water and weather Destin has to offer. The water depth varies from two to ten feet deep depending on where you anchor, and is its shallowest to the middle and works its way out from there. Locals and visitor alike come here to play in the water where you will find floating slides, basket ball, volley ball, live music, restaurants, and you are guaranteed to make new friends! You can always catch a ride out there with the locals who go back and forth taking passengers or rent any water craft, as well. Depending on the day, and of course the weekend, you may see anywhere from 10 to 500 assorted boats including some great “go fast” boats and luxury yachts.
If you choose to venture off the beaches and to the freshwater there are great natural springs nearby. You will find paddle boats, canoe rental, snorkel and scuba rental, and they even have camping available for a night away from the beach!
